Quick name change: The 35-year-old musician revealed that her youngest child is now being called either Y, Why, or ?
In the profile, she shared that Exa was called Y for short but has now deemed it her new name.
Exa refers to the computing term exaFLOPS. Dark means ‘the unknown. People fear it, but truly, it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.’
Grimes added that Sideræl means the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time.’
One fan replied to her recent tweet and said: ‘omg baby sailor mars hiiii,’ to which the beauty responded to the fan sharing her daughter’s updated moniker.
‘She’s Y now, or “Why?” or just “?” (But the government won’t recognize that),’ she wrote.
Grimes then explained that the child’s name is meant to represent ‘curiosity, the eternal question, .. and such.’
She and the Tesla CEO are also parents to 2-year-old X Æ A-12, nicknamed X, whose name was later tweaked to X Æ A-Xii because California law forbids the use of numbers in a legal name.
The couple originally disagreed on how the child’s name should be pronounced, with Grimes taking to her Instagram to explain. ‘It’s just X, like the letter X. Then A.I. Like how you said the letter A then I,’ she shared.

However, Musk told podcast host Joe Rogan a different pronunciation of the name. ‘First of all, my partner is the one that actually, mostly, came up with the name. Yeah, she’s great at names.’
Rogan then asked how to say it, to which Musk responded: ‘I mean it’s just X, the letter X. And then, the Æ is, like, pronounced “Ash”… and then, A-12, A-12 is my contribution.’
Elon has five other children – twins Griffin and Xavier and triplets Damian, Saxon, and Kai – from a previous marriage.
He and Grimes started dating publicly in May 2018 but experienced an on-again, off-again relationship until they finally split after the birth of their daughter in March 2022.
