Dave Myers recalls ‘learning to walk again’ after chemotherapy
Hairy Bikers TV star Dave Myers has issued a health update amid his current cancer battle, and it’s infused with positivity.
The star has revealed that while he’s still crying, he is now shedding “tears of joy rather than anguish”.
One project that helped him get him through some of the tough times was penning a new cookbook with co-star Si King.
Titled The Hairy Bikers’ Ultimate Comfort Food, it’ll be published next Thursday and will detail some of the recipes that tempted Dave to eat despite often feeling totally nauseated as a side-effect of chemotherapy.
The 66-year-old has now told of a “wonderful” Filipino nurse who cared for him in hospital and the “great comfort” one of her nation’s traditional dishes gave him in his time of need.

As published in Mail Online, Dave enthused: “One day, she brought me her favourite noodle dish, pancit. It’s hard to eat much when you’re having treatment but I inhaled this – it was so good.
“There’s something about it that when you start to eat it you can’t stop,” he added, explaining that the Filipino Noodles recipe viewers can find in the cookbook was inspired by the dish she’d served.
Dave has revealed that writing the book was “great therapy” for him and in addition, has helped him to bond all over again with Si.
“There’s been a lot of emotion while we were filming and writing this book because we both realised how that feeling of comfort, of having a hug, is really important,” he explained.

Dave added that he feels “enormously privileged” to have built such a firm friendship due to the tough nature of the industry he works in and the “b******t” he feels it can bring.
Although he’s admitted that treatment is still ongoing, comparing himself to a diabetic needing “constant care”, he has counterbalanced that by stating that life currently is “pretty damn sweet”.
Dave once described himself as “obese”, but since chemo his weight has yo-yoed in the other direction, leaving him needing to stabilise.
“I lost so much weight and then it’s a battle to get your calories in,” he revealed on Tommy Banks’ Seasoned podcast while discussing the “brutal” appetite-sapping treatment he’s endured.
For a while, he developed unusual cravings, asking his wife for bizarre combinations like cottage pie with Vimto.
He’s also been undergoing intensive physiotherapy to be able to walk after the chemo also targeted his balance.
“It’s hard [even] to stand, so I’ve had to really learn to walk again!” he told Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast.
The star, who struggled with losing his hair and even eyelashes during the chemo, is now feeling much more positive about life as he continues his road to recovery.
The Hairy Bikers’ Ultimate Comfort Food by Si King and Dave Myers (Seven Dials, £25) will be published on Thursday.
