Si King 'Sycamore Gap tree murdered by vandals'
Hairy Biker Si King took to Twitter to say he was “beyond words” and in “shock” after the Sycamore Gap Tree at Hadrian’s Wall was destroyed overnight.
The chef, 56, appeared crestfallen in an emotional video as he condemned the vandal who took a chainsaw to it.
He said: “I’ve just been made aware that we have lost the sycamore at Sycamore Gap, somebody has felled it, apparently.
“Well, I hope whoever has done this has a conscience because you’ve just murdered a sentinel of time and an elemental spirit of Northumberland.
“I hope you feel really good about yourself for whatever warped reason you have done it.”

Many took to the comments of Si’s video and echoed his emotional sentiment.
Carl wrote: “You speak for all of us. Dumbfounded, disgusted…at a loss for words. It’s evil.”

Sage added: “There is a terrible sickness permeating society. To destroy a tree that has stood majestically for so long is abhorrent.”
And Heather penned: “Well done for getting through that without swearing. I live a few miles away from it and I’m furious. It’s hard to explain what this tree means to the communities along The Wall. Just gutted.”
Following the incident on Wednesday night, a 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage. The police said the boy remains in custody and is assisting officers with their inquiries.
Superintendent Kevin Waring, of Northumbria Police, said in a statement: “This is a world-renowned landmark and the events of today have caused significant shock, sadness and anger throughout the local community and beyond.
“An investigation was immediately launched following this vandalism, and this afternoon we have arrested one suspect in connection with our enquiries.
“Given our investigation remains at a very early stage, we are keeping an open mind. I am appealing to the public for information to assist us – if you have seen or heard anything suspicious that may be of interest to us, please let us know.”
