Halsey finally released their new single “So Good” on Thursday (June 9). The song is based on the singer’s love story with Alev Aydin.
Max Martin and Tobias Karlsson produced “So Good.” Halsey said the song “is about the friend that was always there for me, who I realized I was in love with one day” and thanked their fans for their warm reception to the song.
Halsey also proudly added that, “I think this is the biggest and best reaction to a song release I have ever seen from you guys. I’m truly giddy. All of this was so worth it. I had a gut feeling this was a good one.”
“When you left, I bet you held her body closer/ And I was hoping you would tell her it was over/ You’re all I think about in every way I look/ I know it’s bad, but we could be so good,” Halsey sings on the ballad.
Halsey took to TikTok in May, telling followers that “So Good” wouldn’t drop until they could “fake a viral moment on TikTok.”
“Basically i have a song that i love that i wanna release ASAP but my record label won’t let me…ive been in this industry for 8 years and ive sold over 165 million records…i deserve better tbh,” they wrote.
Halsey later continued to update fans about the status of new music in the video’s comment section, writing that Capitol Records “just said I have to post tiktoks; they didn’t specifically say ‘about what’ so here I am.”
“So Good” is the first release from Halsey since the release of an extended version of If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which came out in 2021.
