Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have been pop culture personalities for a long time. After rising to fame on the MTV series The Hills, the couple became one of reality TV’s most divisive pairings. Eventually, they starred in The Hills: New Beginnings.
While some people hate Pratt and Montag, others can’t get enough of their unique brand of oversharing and excess. A few years ago, the duo publicly converted to Christianity. In the years since then, both reality TV stars have opened up about their faith. In 2019, Montag even released a Christian pop song, “Glitter & Glory,” to honor her new faith.
When did Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag convert to Christianity?
Pratt and Montag had already been public figures for close to a decade in 2017 when the couple made a public conversion to Christianity. According to The Daily Beast, Pratt and Montag’s journey to Christianity culminated in a 2017 episode of the reality show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
On the show, viewers watched as Pratt got baptized by Stephen Baldwin, a born-again Christian. Montag also prayed alongside former First Lady of Illinois Patti Blagojevich in one episode. This confused some fans who struggled to reconcile the couple’s new beliefs with their over-the-top lifestyle.
After appearing on the show, Montag posed for Playboy. The Daily Beast notes that Montag justified her nude spread by saying, “God made humans naked.”
Heidi Montag’s 2019 single is called ‘Glitter and Glory’
Although some fans have questions, Montag and Pratt continue to talk openly about their Christianity. In 2019, Montag even released a Christian pop single called “Glitter and Glory.” The tune, according to Hit, details Montag’s newfound love of God and the deep connection that she feels to her faith.
Montag’s song lyrics discuss how becoming a Christian influenced her life in the spotlight. Lines read, “God helped me see the difference between glitter and glory.” She also alludes to the emptiness that the pursuit of material items can cause, singing “I’ve seen power and possessions, take an inch then take control, don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul.”
Fans who want to listen to Montag’s single can hear it on YouTube, iTunes, Google Play, and Spotify.
What have Pratt and Montag said about their faith?
Some influential figures in the religious community have spoken out about Montag and Pratt’s public faith journey. Jared Wilson, pastor of Element Church in Nashville said Pratt “looks like he’s just trying on Christianity like he would an Armani coat,” according to the Daily Beast. “It’s hard to take their faith seriously at all. They demonstrated zero humility, grace, or patience. Obviously, becoming a Christian doesn’t change your behavior overnight, but it does change you.”
Montag and Pratt aren’t phased, however. She still credits her belief in God with helping her to navigate the spotlight.
“I’m really thankful I had such a public fall and I spent all my money and everything because it made me remember what I care about and what is important to me and to rebuild,” Montag recently told Faithwire, according to Yahoo. “Because of God, I was able to rebuild and refocus.”
For Montag and Pratt, maintaining their authenticity is more important than what critics have to say.
