THE BIG 5-0
As you read this column, hopefully I’ll be in Dubai with the whole family. I guess it’s a bit of a birthday celebration. I mean, I’m not 50 until the end of the month so I’m getting in early – lol. I’ve decided I’m not doing a birthday party as I’d much rather celebrate it bit by bit throughout the year. I was always a bit freaked out about turning 50, but it’s coincided nicely with me celebrating 30 years in the industry. Focusing on the 30 and not the 50 sounds better! It sounds old but it really isn’t. I feel so young. I train, I love food, I love life.
LEAVE MADONNA ALONE!
Madonna has had so much stick this week for the way she looks and how different her face is, but can we just acknowledge that this music icon has been so incredibly successful for decades? Sometimes people tend to focus on looks more than achievements, she’s not hurting anyone. It’s up to an individual what changes they make to themselves. It’s unfortunately becoming more commonplace to judge people on their appearance and it’s not a good message to send out to young generations. I do think there is a growing pressure on people to change the way they look or try and slow down the ageing process, but it just so happens that someone like Madonna is doing this in the glare of the public eye.
DRAMA AT THE GRAMMYS
I loved all the coverage of Ben Affleck’s facial expression at the Grammys! You just know he was thinking, “what am I doing here?!” I thought the footage of J.Lo telling him off just proved how close they are and what a normal couple they are. It was classic bickering. Ben aside, I thought it was so unfair that people speculated that Adele walked out when Harry Styles won – something she denied. And I also thought it was unfair that people were up in arms about him winning. This is a kid who has fulfilled his ultimate dream. He’s gone from auditioning for a reality show to being a global music star. Give him a break! It’s such a great achievement and he comes across as a really nice guy.
THINKING OF THE VICTIMS
It was devastating to see what has been happening in Turkey and Syria following the horrendous earthquakes. I can only imagine how horrific it is for everyone affected. Those pictures of families holding onto their relatives will stay with me for a very long time. My thoughts are with everybody having to go through this.
MISSING MUM NICOLA
Like the rest of the nation I have been saddened by the disappearance of Nicola Bulley, who was still missing at the time of me writing this. It’s such a bizarre story. If she had fallen into the river you’d expect to see slip marks or footmarks or something on the ground. But on the flip side, if someone did take her, you’d think there would also be signs of a struggle. There seems to be more questions than answers, that’s for sure. It’s heartbreaking and I feel so much for her and her family. It’s horrific. It’s one thing someone going missing, but it’s another thing not knowing what happened to them. I can’t even imagine it.
