James Corden breaks silence as he calls silly restaurant ban beneath all of us

James Corden has finally broken his silence over a New York restauranteur's claims that he banned The Late Late Show star from his eatery after his diva antics and "rudeness" to staff.

The former Gavin and Stacey star, 44, branded the drama "so silly" and said that it was "beneath all of us", as he finally addressed the furore in a recent interview.

When a reporter from the New York Times asked if James was "alright" following the backlash from the incident, the British funnyman shrugged it off.

The publication reports that James asked the reporter what he meant by asking if he was alright, and they then confirmed they were referring to the saga with the Balthazar restauranteur, adding that they wondered if he would cancel the interview.

James is then said to have snapped: "I haven't done anything wrong, on any level. So why would I ever cancel this [the interview]? I was there. I get it. I feel so Zen about the whole thing. Because I think it's so silly."

He continued: "I just think it's beneath all of us. It's beneath you. It's certainly beneath your publication."

He went on to say that he has managed to avoid most of the news concerning the restaurant incident, but revealed that he finds the situation "strange".

James said: "My feeling, often, is, never explain, never complain. But I'll probably have to talk about it. It feels like such a silly thing to talk about."

James' golden Hollywood reputation was in fear of being tarnished after he was slammed by restauranteur Keith McNally, who owns the Balthazar chain, for his alleged treatment of staff.

Keith mentioned two separate incidents at his restaurants, claiming that James had mistreated staff and "yelled like crazy" when his wife's order was wrong.

Keith wrote: "James Corden is a hugely gifted comedian, but a tiny Cretin of a man. And the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago," Keith wrote on Instagram.

"I don't often 86 a customer, to today I 86'd Corden," he said, using an American slang term used to refer to throwing someone out of a restaurant or bar.

"It did not make me laugh," he added.

The restauranteur later took again to social media as he announced that he had decided to revoke James' ban to his eateries, after the star "called him and apologised profusely".

The 71 year old wrote on Instagram: "James Corden just called me and apologized profusely. Having f****d up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances. So if James Corden lets me host his Late Late Show for 9 months, I’ll immediately rescind his ban from Balthazar.

"No, of course not. But….anyone magnanimous enough to apologise to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn’t deserve to be banned from anywhere. Especially Balthazar. So Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Corden, Jimmy Corden. All is Forgiven. xx."
