Richard Hammond says James May is ‘fine’ after nasty crash
James May stated that he and his longtime colleagues Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond are not good at acting, as they are “just car journalists really”.
The motor expert insisted that all of their on-screen squabbles and irritation with each other are entirely real to create the most authentic experience for the at-home viewer.
When questioned on whether his reactions on the show are real by Fuelling Around podcast host Dave Vitty, James responded: “The p***ed off is definitely real, the truth is we’re not actors.
“There are times we have tried to act bits and then thought, ‘Oh dear let’s just quietly throw that away because it is pure cheese’.
“We’re not actors, we’re just car journalists really. You know what I mean, it doesn’t start with a particular acting skill.”

It comes as Richard previously revealed the presenting trio got up to “endless” squabbles during filming.
He was asked about rows the trio experienced while on their road trip to Scandinavia in 2022.
The former Top Gear presenter told Express.co.uk: “Oh God, it’s endless.
“We did get a bit bickery about navigation because when you can’t see and wake up and discover you’re not where you thought you were, that warrants an argument.”

During filming, James was rushed to hospital after crashing his car into a wall.
The Grand Tour presenter had to undergo a brain scan before being allowed to resume filming.
Richard explained James’ break from shooting led to him and Jeremy pranking each other even more.
He continued: “Also, the argument rivalry ramped up a little bit because James had temporarily incapacitated themselves due to rank stupidity and forgetting where the break pedal is, Jeremy and I just indulged in an all-out war between us, which is great fun.”

“And the great thing about the arguments and the physical pranks we play on each other is that whenever one of us does something awful to one of the others, your first thought is if it’s you that it’s been done to is, ‘Well, fair enough I’d have done the same to you if I’d got the chance.’”
“So there was a lot of that going on,” Richard added.
The Grand Tour is available to stream now on Amazon Prime.
