Jeremy Vine confronts driver after being knocked off his bike by van

Jeremy Vine knocked over by van after right hand turn

Via a camera on his cycling helmet, Jeremy Vine captured a van performing an “illegal right turn” across a bike lane.

The van consequently ran over Jeremy’s bike as he banged on the back of the vehicle to alert the driver, while shouting “s**t” as the event occurred.

He wrote: “This morning. About an hour ago.

“Illegal right turn, then watch. Unbelievable.”

The person in control of the vehicle eventually seemed to hear and drove off the bike again, and away from Jeremy, who was positioned behind the van.

Someone then appeared and apologised to Jeremy, and helped him to carry the bike onto the pavement.

When Jeremy is asked: “Are you okay, sir?”, he responds: “Just come over here.”

One person challenged Jeremy, arguing: “You went through a red light.”

“It’s green [sic]. Don’t drive. Please,” Jeremy responded.

He also took screenshots and highlighted the traffic lights to prove other people wrong when they too claimed he had cycled through a red light.

Another comment read: “So the guy makes a mistake, tries to rectify it but rather than help, the cyclist chooses to stay behind the van hammering on the door. Ambulance chasers.”

A third remarked: “Why would you stop right behind him knowing he would have to reverse back out you could have avoided that.”

However, others sided with Jeremy as they slammed the van driver’s “dangerous” road etiquette.

A fourth commented: “Bl***y hell, hope you’re ok. If that’s not dealt with as Dangerous Driving then it’ll be sad.”

While a fifth said: “Crikey this is some basic error. This man should have his licence taken away. Did you manage to get your bike back in one piece? Maybe scraped?”

A sixth remarked: “That’s so scary!”
