Not one to hold back in his political thoughts, John Cleese has put forward his opinion as he compared the pair on his Twitter page. The Fawlty Towers star, with a little sarcasm, told fans he was in defence of Donald Trump on this occasion, but seemingly implied that he thought the former US president was corrupt.
The 82-year-old began by comparing where the pair are respectively from, as well as their looks.
He went on to say: “Hitler loved his dogs. Trump has no pets. Hitler was a good dancer. Trump isn’t.”
John added that the former dictator was a “self-made man” while the ex USA President is “father-made”.
He also claimed Hitler was “unremarkably uncorrupt” in what appeared to be a subtle dig at Trump.
John also brought up how the former leader shot himself in a bunker and added he “never used a teleprompter”.
He went on to say: “Finally… The single, solitary aspect of Hitler that Trump resembles is that….
“Hitler encouraged his supporters to use violence to overthrow the government, in order to establish a dictatorship.”
Concluding his post, he wished the former President “good luck” with the case.
A Florida court file shows that Trump accused CNN of a “campaign of libel and slander” against him.
The lawsuit, filed by the ex US President’s lawyers, said Mr Trump had been a “long-time critic” of the news website, “not because CNN does a bad job of reporting the news, but because CNN seeks to create the news”.
It went on to claim that the publication “sought to use its massive influence” to “defeat him politically”.
Amid alleged fears he could run for President again, the “libel and slander” had “escalated in recent months”.
The lawsuit added that CNN “tried to taint the Plaintiff with a series of ever-more scandalous, false, and defamatory labels of ‘racist,’ ‘Russian lackey,’ ‘insurrectionist,’ and ultimately ‘Hitler.’”
One of the reports referenced in the document was CNN’s special called The Fight To Save Democracy, published on January 9.
Hosted by Fareed Zakaria, images of the German dictator were shown, however the host stated in the programme that, “let’s be very clear. Donald Trump is not Adolf Hitler”.
Referencing this, the lawsuit stated that it was “interspersing discussion of Hitler and Nazi Germany with footage of [Mr Trump]”.
CNN has been contacted for comment.
Last month, John took a further swipe at Trump and said he found it “comforting” that the ex-US Apprentice host was becoming “more insane”.
He went on to say he wondered when Trump’s supporters would start to realise what he’s really like.
The former President was replaced by Joe Biden last year.
