Jonnie Irwin films two short films for BBC Morning Live
Jonnie Irwin was inundated with support as he admitted he’d made a “mistake” by leaving his electric bike at home and attempting to pedal manually by himself.
The 49-year-old published a brief video snippet of himself recording for a BBC show, and fans were delighted to see him in the studio – but his exhaustion was intense.
The former A Place in the Sun legend wrote to his 227,000 followers from Newcastle: “Recorded the VO for the two short films we made for @bbcmorninglive. Chose not to take electric bike which was a mistake.
“I dusted off the push bike and soon realised the studios were up long climb (for me). Anyway I was a bit late but home now and glad of the exercise.” (sic)
@martinlee1959.ml empathised while declaring: “Your positivity and courage and tenacity is inspiring. Wish you and your family all the best.”

@diane.smith2380 agreed: “You look so well Jonnie. Lovely to see you got over your chest infection. Sending love and light to you and your family.”
Fans from far and wide posted their warm wishes for him to “defy the odds” and keep fighting, with Instagrammers writing in from everywhere from Sweden to Australia.
He shared last week that he’d treated his chest infection with a combination of traditional and alternative remedies, mixing antibiotics with use of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and deep breathing in a designated “Salt Room”.
Meanwhile, the courageous dad-of-three is keen to keep working where possible and also to give his children a life of “normalcy” despite his health woes.

While he struggled to summon up the strength to complete his journey on his push bike this week, his electric version has been helping him maintain his independence and spend quality time outdoors with his kids.
Over the summer, he was able to take Rex to his last ever day at nursery, thanks to the Babboe Cargo Bike, which he proudly declared at the time gives him enough “electric power assistance” to go “pretty much anywhere”.
“I’m obviously a lot weaker these days and would [otherwise] never be strong enough to cart these ankle biters around,” he explained, sharing a photo of him with his three sons loaded into the passenger section.
He recently revealed that he hadn’t shared his terminal cancer diagnosis with his boys, who are all aged under five, to avoid upsetting them.
“It would be horrible news that they’d have to get their heads around. And it would confuse the hell out of [eldest son, four-year-old] Rex – he’s got a shocking enough day coming,” he told Hello! magazine.
“As far as he’s concerned, his dad is normal and why would I shatter that innocence?
“Let’s bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible,” Jonny exclaimed.
