On the road again
I’m so glad to be back on the road with my Work In Progress shows, I’m having so much fun! I have some new material that I’ve been excited to try out and I’m visiting places I’ve never been to before such as Reading and Walton-on-Thames.
I really enjoy going to new areas and it always surprises me that people want to come and see my show and sell it out. Comedy is definitely my first love, but I’m starting to realise I need to come up with a name for the tour, I’m sure I’ll have an a-ha moment soon!
Representation is everything
It’s amazing to see little girls reacting to the trailer for the live action remake of The Little Mermaid, which sees Halle Bailey playing Ariel. We already know that representation is everything so I’m thrilled that Ariel will be played by a Black actress. It’s just so shocking that people have so many negative things to say about a fictional character. If people can see how racist people react negatively to a character then they will understand how people in the entertainment industry are speaking about their own experiences, they will realise that people are not race baiting or making it up.
I can’t wait to see Halle in The Little Mermaid, my daughter loves Chloe x Halle, the group she is in with her sister. They’re managed by Beyoncé and are really talented young girls and are both triple threats. If they’re being trained by Queen Bey then we know they’re phenomenal! I’m also really looking forward to seeing Viola Davis in The Woman King. Those are the two movies I can’t wait to see.
Go Graziano!
My old Strictly partner Graziano Di Prima has been paired with Kym Marsh this series, I think they’re going to get on so well! Kym has a bubbly personality and they will look great together. She will learn so much from Graziano and I’m looking forward to the magic they are going to create.
My Loose Women co-star Kaye Adams has Kai Widdrington, which I think is a perfect match! Kai is such a lovely guy and he will bring out the best in Kaye. He is so patient and mature, he did an amazing job with AJ Odudu last year. Those are the two pairs that I’ll be rooting for this year!
Melanie talks mental health
Melanie C has been so open about the mental health problems she has dealt with since finding fame in her new autobiography, Who I Am, and I think it’s so important for people to be honest about what they’re experiencing. I think there are a lot of people in the industry who suffer with their mental health. There is a lot of pressure and expectation. People don’t see that you’re up every day at six o’clock, doing three jobs in one, people just see glamorous Instagram posts and none of the stuff that goes on behind it. Younger generations look up to these people and want to follow in their footsteps but they need to understand how to take care of their mental health and how to find the right manager and agent to have that inner circle to support them. I’ve already started writing for my autobiography but I don’t think I’ll tell my story anytime soon. Hopefully you’ll all be able to read it one day…
Congrats Emeli!
I want to send a huge congratulations to Emeli Sandé who has announced she is engaged to her partner Yoana Karemova just six months after she came out. I think whirlwind relationships can work but it’s down to the individual.
If you’re at a place where you feel ready and that person feels right for you and they are bringing peace to your life and your heart then why not? She seems very happy and has said they have such a connection. It shows that when you find the right person for you, that’s just what it is. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in a straight, gay or bisexual relationship before, just do you.
