Judi Love says Maya Jama will do Caroline Flack proud as new Love Island host

Comedy star and OK!'s beloved columnist Judi Love has wished Maya Jama a huge congratulations for landing the job as Love Island's incoming host, believing she will do the show's original frontwoman, the late Caroline Flack, "proud".

Writing in her column this week, Judi also recalls her experience making her first solo documentary Black, Female and Invisible, encourages male readers to visit the GP more often and has her say on the brand new Dancing On Ice line-up. Sign up – for free – to read Judi's full column.

Go, Maya!

Huge congratulations to Maya Jama for landing the spot of Love Island host.

This is such an incredible career move for her, and I have no doubt she’ll take to it like a duck to water.

She’ll strut into that villa and put the boys in their place!

I’d like to wish the previous host, Laura Whitmore, all the best in the next step of her career, and I’m sure she’ll pass some words of wisdom on to Maya.

I bet Love Island’s original host, the late Caroline Flack, would be extremely proud of what both Laura and Maya have done for the show since she passed away.

Good luck, Maya!

Facing up to adversity

My first solo documentary, Judi Love: Black, Female And Invisible, premiered on Monday evening and I’ve got to say, it was one of the most eye-opening and thought-provoking ventures I’ve ever embarked on.

I explored the odds stacked against Black women around the world – in the realms of the workplace, healthcare and society – while also shedding light on the incredible women of colour carrying the torch and inspiring young Black girls to keep striving for their goals in the face of adversity.

This documentary really was an emotional journey – catch up on All4 now.

Winter blues

I recently came across a news article that said women are twice as likely than men to visit a doctor if they believe they need medical assistance.

So, to any men reading this, I’d like to say there’s nothing to be ashamed about for seeking help if something is bothering you – whether it is mental or physical.

And to women reading this – wives, sisters, daughters, friends – please do check in on your male friends, especially at this time of year. Seasonal blues are a real thing, as are illnesses and diseases linked to the colder months.

Actually, I’d like to encourage everyone to check in with one another. A worry shared is a worry halved.

Menopause matters

MPs are debating whether all women should be invited for a menopause check-up when they reach the age of 45. Absolutely they should be!

Not only would this make it easier and faster for women to receive a diagnosis and access to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) if they so wish, but it also removes the taboos around the menopause.

We often discuss the menopause on Loose Women because we as a group are trying to emphasise there’s nothing to be embarrassed about and it’s a part of life.

Routine invitations to see a doctor about this will help remove the outdated stigma surrounding the menopause.

What a line-up!

The Dancing On Ice line-up was announced last week, and my goodness, what a cast!

You’ve got everyone from the likes of Love Island diva Ekin-Su and EastEnders’ Patsy Kensit to comedian Darren Harriott and Drag Race star The Vivienne.

I know the gang will have begun their arduous training routines, and if it’s anything like the Strictly rehearsals, I’d like to wish them the best of luck.

They’re certainly braver than me! I’ve never been a fan of ice-skating.

With Strictly, if you fell down on the ballroom floor, yes, it hurt, but on ice? Ouch!

I know everyone will be working hard, but I’d like them all to remember it’s the taking part and the enjoyment that really matter!
