Julia Bradbury Talks About How Cancer Was A Wake Up Call
As she gears up to watch herself stripping off on The Real Full Monty, which airs next week, Julia Bradbury has revealed her family aren’t all happy about her taking her clothes off, even if it is for a good cause. The 53-year-old had a life-saving mastectomy in 2021 after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and now she aims to raise awareness with the ITV show.
The programme sees a group of celebrities who have been impacted by cancer in some way, take part in a group performance, which ends in them stripping off for a live audience. Her husband Gerard Cunningham and three children, Zephyr, 12, and her twin girls Xanthe and Zena, eight, were told prior to the performance, and seemed to be on board with it. However, Julia’s parents weren’t entirely keen on the idea, with her dad in particular preferring her not to do it.
The presenter told MailOnline: “I wouldn’t have agreed without discussing it with Gerry and the kids, because it impacts them and filters through the school gate. Dad was reticent, and remains so. He said, ‘You’re exposing yourself in all the wrong ways’. I hope he’ll come round.”
Julia went on to admit that she wasn’t nervous about stripping off in front of her fellow celebrities, who include Gemma Collins, Dancing on Ice star Vanessa Bauer, and Paul Burrell.
She continued: “We were encouraged to be naked in front of each other from an early stage, the men and the women. I’ve never been squeamish about nudity, so for me it wasn’t uncomfortable, but it was odd because we were strangers.”

The Countryfile star was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2021 and underwent a single mastectomy.
She learned of her diagnosis a year after finding a lump that proved to be a cluster of benign micro-cysts.
Since then, the star has completely overhauled her lifestyle and excluded toxins such as perfume and plastic from her household.
She now uses her own experience with breast cancer to help other people, after her battle with the disease turned her life around.
