Kaye Adams, 59, was the first voted off Strictly Come Dancing last week after losing in a dance-off to singer Matt Goss. The Loose Women star has spoken out about her shock departure and what she thinks might be the reason why she was the first voted out.
It was so scathing!
Kaye Adams
Kaye explained how she had read a critical piece about herself just hours before she was due to perform the Charleston live on TV.
The Loose Women presenter, unfortunately, let this get in her head and she “takes full responsibility for that”.
The presenter confessed on her How to be 60 podcast: “On Thursday, I was in quite a good mood, I had the routine in my head.
“It was enormous fun that week, we were around the set, I love spending time with these young dancers, you know, and all the people, the wardrobe people, the make-up people and everything, I was having such a good time.
“And I thought, hey, you know what, I’m gonna give this a go, I’m going to be fine. And then somebody sent me a newspaper column.”
Kaye then went into detail about the effect seeing this criticism had on her while she was performing last week.
She continued: “It was so scathing. Now of course, everyone has the right to write whatever they want and publish their views. I have no issue with that. I take that.
“But I let it get in my head. I take responsibility for that. Because I deliberately stayed off social media.
“But this just pinged in and it got through my defences. And for 12 hours, ah, I just had it going around my head.
“I thought they’ve got it right. This is maybe the lesson I’ve learned, which is, is just to not allow that to come in and sabotage you.”
Kaye danced the Charleston to Music! Music! Music! but it was not a success with the judges who picked Matt Goss to go through to next week.
Speaking after her performance, she said: “I did it as well as I could. That’s all I can really say.
“You know, as I have said from the beginning, I am not a dancer – which is perfectly obvious – but I gave it everything that I could.”
Matt took to the dancefloor with Nadiya Bychkova to perform their samba to Saturday Night fever by the Bee Gees in a bid to impress the judges.
The judges’ scores this week were added to those from last week and were then combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest-scoring two couples.
Craig Revel Horwood told Kaye she “under-performed” as he scored her four out of 10 for her first week.
She also admitted that she found the dance-off experience “really difficult”.
Adams told programme host Rylan Clark-Neal on It Takes Two: “I’ve seen a few people say ‘She was like a rabbit in the headlights’.
“All I can say is ‘Yeah, I was. I blanked. I was tired’.”
