The longtime cast member of ‘Saturday Night Live’ and the former ‘Kenan and Kel’ star will be added as the 2,728th star from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
AceShowbiz –Kenan Thompson is set to join the stars on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. The TV personality will be honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his 20th anniversary on “Saturday Night Live“.
“Kenan Thompson is the voice of a generation,” Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said in the announcement, according to VladTV. “From ‘Kenan & Kel’ to ‘Saturday Night Live’, Kenan has been making folks laugh for nearly 30 years. In celebration of his upcoming 20th anniversary on ‘SNL’, we thought it would be fitting to place Kenan’s star next to the star of the man who gave him his job, Lorne Michaels.”
The ceremony for the reveal of Kenan’s star is scheduled for August 11. Among those who are expected to be in attendance at the event are J.B. Smoove and Leslie Jones.
Of Kenan’s resume, he starred in the sitcom “Kenan & Kel” from 1996 through 2000 in addition to “Saturday Night Live”. He’s also appeared in “The Mighty Ducks” franchise, “Good Burger” and more. He recently starred in his own show for NBC, “Kenan“, which ran in 2021 for two seasons before being canceled by the network. The show earned him a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
More recently, Kenan weighed in on rumors that “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne would end the program in 2025, after its 50th anniversary. In a new interview with “Hell of a Week”, Kenan said, “Is that the rumor? All right, well, I need to start planning. There could be a lot of validity to that rumor because 50 is a good number to stop at. That’s an incredible package.”
Kenan previously hinted that he would like to stay on the program until its 50th season following the departures of stars such as Pete Davidson and Kate McKinnon. Asked if he’s planning to leave, he said, “I mean, not that I know of.” He added, “I know we at least trying to get to the 50th, ’cause that’s gonna be a special year, you know what I mean? And then after that, it’s like, I don’t know exactly how long I can do it.”
