King Charles genuinely disappointed at Harrys disappearing act

King Charles is said to have been "genuinely disappointed" at Prince Harry's speedy dash back to the United States on Saturday.

Following his jubilant Coronation, the newly-crowned King, 74, raised a glass to the fourth birthday of Harry’s son, Archie.

The toast was made at a family lunch that took place at Buckingham Palace following the two-hour ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

An invitation to the lunch was extended to the Duke of Sussex, 38, but he snubbed it in favour of jetting back home to California to catch the tail-end of Archie's birthday celebrations.

Prince Archie turned four on Saturday, 6 May and spent the day with his mother, Meghan Markle, 41, and sister, one year old Princess Lilibet, at their Montecito home.

According to MailOnline, before the family began to eat, Prince William, 40, stood up and congratulated his father on such an extraordinary day.

Charles responded by thanking everyone who had worked hard to make the day so special.

The King then raised a glass to three of his grandchildren; 11 year old Prince George – who also served as a Page of Honour – Princess Charlotte, 8, and five year old Prince Louis, who stole the show on Saturday and carried out their public appearances with aplomb.

However, Charles also made a point of also toasting "those that weren’t there" and wished his other grandson a very happy birthday, "wherever he was".

A source said: "It was apparently a very sweet moment."

They added that while most members of the Royal Family "breathed a sigh of relief" that Harry skipped the lunch, Charles seemed "genuinely quite disappointed that he didn’t stay".

Harry arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at around 7.30pm local time (3.30am UK) to reunite with his son on his birthday.

British Airways flight attendants confirmed to the PA news agency that Harry had been on the flight but said they were not permitted to discuss the details of his trip.

Archie is said to have had an intimate fourth birthday party at the couples' California mansion, according to the Mail. Their oldest child is said to have enjoyed a homemade lemon caked baked by the Duchess of Sussex.

Harry's appearance at the Coronation marked his first public appearance alongside the royals since he lambasted his family in his controversial memoir Spare, which was released earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the Coronation celebrations continue in Blighty as today will see the nation enjoy in a Big Lunch, before the concert this evening.

The likes of Katy Perry, Take That and Lionel Ritchie will take to the stage in honour of our new King and Queen.
