King Charles was filmed reacting to Prime Minister Liz Truss’ entrance with “Dear oh dear” during the start of their first weekly audience.
Liz Truss has only met the new King a handful of times, with the first being on September 9, one day after the Queen’s death and three days after she took office.
On Wednesday, the monarch and the new Prime Minister had their first weekly meeting to discuss government matters and any pressing news the King, 73, might need to know.
It came after Ms Truss faced Prime Minister’s Questions in Parliament, where she insisted she will not cut spending to balance the books as economists and the financial markets continued to question her plans.
Ms Truss told MPs she is “absolutely” not planning public spending reductions, but insisted taxpayers’ money will be used well.
Footage of the Buckingham Palace meeting saw Ms Truss being led through a pair of double doors by palace staff, who announced her arrival, before curtseying as she said: "Your majesty.”
Charles, smiling, replied: “Back again? Dear oh dear.”
Ms Truss was heard to say: “It’s a great pleasure.”

Separately, on Wednesday afternoon Charles also met the King and Queen of Malaysia, known as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong.
The meeting comes after it was confirmed that the coronation of King Charles III will be held on Saturday May 6 next year, with the Queen Consort being crowned alongside Charles.
The deeply religious affair will take place in Westminster Abbey, eight months after the monarch’s accession and the death of the Queen.
The ceremony will coincide with the fourth birthday of one of the King's grandchildren, Archie, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
It has not yet been confirmed who will attend the ceremony and whether or not the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be among those invited, or whether they will be able to attend since it will be their eldest child’s birthday.
Announcing the date of the coronation, Buckingham Palace have said the ceremony will be "rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry" but also "reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future."
Charles III will be anointed with holy oil, receive the orb, coronation ring and sceptre, before being crowned with the majestic St Edward’s Crown and blessed during the historic ceremony.
Camilla will also be anointed with holy oil and crowned, just like the Queen Mother was when she was crowned Queen in 1937.
