Lewis Hamilton, 37, and Nicole Scherzinger, 44, were a famed power couple for almost a decade before calling it quits in 2015. The racer recently revisited his famous split, admitting that his career in Formula One made it difficult to maintain his relationship with the singer.
Just a few months after reflecting on their split, Lewis made an emotional post on Instagram this morning, opening up to his 30 million followers.
He shared: “Sometimes I feel so alone. If you feel the same please know that it’s ok, you’re going to get through this!
“You are a unicorn, there is nobody like you and you have so much power and purpose on this earth, don’t give up. Keep fighting, I’m right here with you.”
He sweetly signed off: “Sending you a hug, love and light.”
The World Champion driver has been struggling this season, and with only four Grand Prix races left in the championship, is still yet to bag a win.
He shared the post following his most recent defeat, coming 5th in the Japanese Grand Prix while youngster Max Verstappen claimed his 12th win.
Lewis has previously opened up about his mental health struggles and how his incredibly successful racing career has left other areas of his life lacking.
Most famously, he dated Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole for seven years in an on-and-off relationship after meeting at the 2007 MTV EMAs.
In 2014, rumours began to fly that the couple may have even been engaged, and while both parties denied it, their fans were delighted at the thought of an official union in the works.
Unfortunately, these hopes would be left unmet as they announced they were taking a break in 2015 and later declared they had parted ways for good.
Lewis told Vanity Fair in August that he had “learned the hard way” about having relationships off the track and admitted his lacking love life since he split from Nicole was due to being “super focused on work”.
He shared: “I’ve realised that I can’t do two things or three things at once, I’ve got to focus on one.
“I really wanted to go through a growth process of getting myself to a point where I’m happy on my own, comfortable in my space. So that if I ever do meet someone, it’s an addition, rather than ‘I need you in my life’.”
At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2019, following a tragic loss on the track, Lewis explained that it’s usually hard for sportsmen and women to maintain solid relationships.
He revealed to reporters after the final Formula One race: “It may be slightly different in that we are traveling as much as we are, and you are just away for crazy amounts of time, so that’s probably an additional weight load that makes it really, really tough to hold down a good relationship.”
He explained “it’s difficult for everyone” in the field to have not just a reliant love life but a steady work-life balance.
On The Graham Norton Show that same year, Lewis shared: “I wear my heart on my sleeve and it is hard to hide my emotions.
“I’m trying my hardest to be positive but I’m going through a really, really tough time at the moment with the loss of someone really, really special in my life.”
However, he had previously told The Sun in 2016 that girlfriends would always come second to his cars and racing life.
He said: “I used to say, when I had a girlfriend, ‘I’m taking one of the girls out, so you can come if you want, but you come second when it comes to the cars.’.”
