Lionel Richie gets the whole royal family dancing
Lionel Richie fans were left disappointed after the All Night Long singer canceled his concert at New York City’s Madison Square Garden last minute on Saturday.
Now, the music legend has spoken out to offer his apologies to those who were waiting to see him as he explained the reason he didn’t show up.
Speaking during his rescheduled show on Monday, Richie revealed his pilot advised him they would not be able to make it despite his insistence.
Richie said: “I had two no’s to come at the same time, and when those two decided it’s a no — when God says no and when the pilot says no, the answer…I tried to bribe the pilot.”
The singer then went on to apologize “a thousand times” for missing the performance, according to People.

The Dancing on the Ceiling singer took to Twitter on Saturday to announce the cancellation, as he revealed he was “bummed” about it.
He wrote: “Due to severe weather and being unable to land in the NY and surrounding areas, I’m unable to make it to the show tonight. I’m so bummed.
“We are rescheduling the show to Monday, Aug 14. Can’t wait to perform for you all.
“Tickets for tonight’s show are valid for the show on Monday.”
Fans quickly lashed out at the announcement, with many sending photographs of where they were already sitting in the concert hall with thousands around them patiently waiting for the show to start.

Richie’s disappointed following was far more brutal in their criticisms of the American Idol star as some shared photos of the clear night sky and claimed he was simply “making excuses” and branded his attempt “pathetic”.
Others claimed the singer had known he wouldn’t be able to make the performance hours earlier but had delayed the announcement as one ranted: “Inexcusable and Madison Square Garden you fleeced everyone out of thousands of $ for concessions knowing the concert wasn’t happening. Not a chance you found out when we did.”
Elsewhere on TikTok, one fan had documented their entire journey to the concert, revealing they had been charged an eye-watering $73.49 at the venue for only three drinks.
One fan argued on Twitter: “Sounds like bad planning on your part, trying to fly in at the last minute. I’ll take a refund please – no thx to Monday!”
