Gloria Hunniford has opened up about returning to work following a health scare at Christmas, which saw her rushed to A&E by ambulance.
The Loose Women star, 82, was told she had kidney stones towards the end of 2022 and she then had to undergo an operation to get rid of them and put a stent it. Three weeks later, Gloria underwent a second operation to remove the stent.
However, following her first operation, where the kidney stones were removed under general anaesthetic, Gloria began to feel unwell. As she began to come round from her second surgery, she was told she was being transferred to a different hospital due to low blood pressure.
Gloria was then rushed from the hospital in Maidstone, Kent, to a nearby A&E.
Speaking to the Mirror, she said she felt like somebody has "put a tap" in her body and "just drained all the energy". Gloria was later informed by doctors that she had sepsis of the kidney.
Describing her experience, she said: “Thankfully it hadn’t gone beyond the kidney. I guess that’s why I felt so awful and it did flatten me for a while.”
Gloria slowly began to recover but did lose her appetite and suffered from low energy despite mainly resting and sleeping.
The TV presenter was told it could take up to six months to return to some sort of "normality" after having two procedures so close together, however Gloria was nearly back to her usual self in a matter of weeks thanks to her positive attitude and family.
She praised her husband Stephen Way, branding him "marvellous" during her recovery.
Gloria said: “I set myself little tasks and my [husband] Stephen was marvellous. He was chief cook and bottle-washer and my whole wonderful family rallied round”.
Over three months after her health scare, Gloria said she feels she has about "98%" of her energy levels back and her experience has only made her stronger, allowing her to tackle whatever life throws at her.
The star has since returned to work and is back appearing on Loose Women as a regular panellist. She starred in BBC series B&B By the Sea in January and in May, she is back on screens with popular show Rip Off Britain.
