Pop superstar Madonna has had to postpone her upcoming 40th anniversary tour after being taken to hospital with a "serious bacterial infection".
The Material Girl singer's management made the devastating announcement that the 64-year-old had spent "several days" in intensive care, although she is expected to make a full recovery and is now reported to be back home.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reports that at one point she was so ill that relatives were "preparing for the worst".
It is said that those close to her, including her boyfriend Joshua Popper, were called upon to support the star.

Madonna's partner has expressed his desire to turn professional in the future.
In addition to his role as a boxing coach, Josh has ventured into the business world by establishing his own boxing studio called Bredwinner in February 2021.
The gym had its grand opening in November, providing boxing lessons and hosting various events.
Popper also has a background as a player in the NFL and attempted to join both the Arizona Cardinals and the Indianapolis Colts. Unfortunately, he did not secure a place on either team's final roster.
Before starting his business venture, the athlete worked as an insurance salesman in New York City.
While Joshua has gained a modest following on social media due to his boxing passion, he does not have any children.
The Daily Mail reports that Joshua has a positive relationship with Madonna and has been teaching one of her children how to box.
Madonna herself is a mother to six children: Lourdes, aged 26; Rocco, aged 22; David, aged 17; Mercy, aged 17; as well as ten-year-old twins Stella and Estere.
In March, Madonna confirmed their relationship by sharing an affectionate Instagram post featuring herself and the 29-year-old sharing a kiss.
