Martine McCutcheon ‘can’t watch Love Actually’ as she ‘hates seeing herself on screen’

It's the cult Christmas classic we all look forward to coming on our screens every festive period – but one of its stars won't be tuning into the flick with a box of Quality Street this year.

Actress Martine McCutcheon, who plays Prime Minister's assistant Natalie in the movie, admitted to OK! she's not a fan of watching herself on screen – despite her family's pleas to tune in with them.

She told OK!:“I hate watching myself on screen.

“I can do it on set when I’m in work mode, because I can be objective. But when I’m off guard, off duty and at home, and then I come on screen, I still find it really disconcerting. I’ve been doing this since I was nine and I still can’t get used to it! I feel really uncomfortable watching myself. All my family love watching it and I’m like, ‘Call me back in when I’m off!’”

And while Martine may not be watching the film like all of us over the Christmas period, it's clear she's immensely proud of being part of the much-loved flick.

“As I’ve become older, I appreciate more than ever what the film stands for and the fact it’s still mega relevant,” she said. “That’s probably one of the proudest things I’ve ever done – to be part of such a beautiful message. There’s a lot of uncertainty in life and it’s the good stuff that keeps you pushing forward and hopeful. That’s what I’m all about.”

The film has an all star cast – including acting legends such as Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson and Alan Rickman. And Martine still "pinches herself" she's part of the Love Actually club.

“It’s amazing to be a part of this unique club, I pinch myself – I still can’t quite believe it! I feel really honoured that I’ve worked with them [Hugh Grant and Richard Curtis] and they’re friends.”

Career-wise Martine is enjoying connecting with her social media followers about lifestyle, fashion, beauty and everything in between – and has some exciting projects in the pipeline. While personally she has a lot to celebrate having just renewed her vows with husband Jack McManus on their 10-year anniversary.

The pair said their vows at the Beaverbrook hotel in Surrey, with just their son, eight-year-old Rafferty, on the guest list.

She told us of the event: “It was in the most beautiful setting and it was the right combination of casual and elegance. The key thing for us was that it was a true celebration of our love, our relationship and our endurance as husband and wife and parents.

“It was important for us that it was intimate, because a lot of our celebrations have been shared with loved ones and friends. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve loved doing that, but this time it was just purely for us.”
