Oppenheimer cast walk out of UK premiere ahead of announcement
Matt Damon rounds off the star-studded cast for Oppenheimer – but the Hollywood A-lister almost had to pass on the opportunity completely.
Christopher Nolan’s epic is set to break box-office records with it’s released later this week and Damon was present at the premier in London before leaving ahead of the Hollywood actor’s strike.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 52-year-old actor shared a disclaimer about the agreement he had with his wife, noting that he understood it “is going to sound made up, but it’s actually true”.
Matt and his wife of 17 years, Luciana Barroso, had agreed that he would take a career break, “negotiating extensively” in couples therapy.
The actor ultimately promised he would take a step back after having a jam-packed few years both in front and behind the camera.

But Damon insisted that there be one exception to the agreement, explaining: “The one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called.
“This is without knowing whether or not he was working on anything because he never tells you. He just calls you out of the blue.”
When Christopher Nolan did in fact call with news of Oppenheimer, Matt declared: “It was a moment in my household.”
Thanks to his well-planned caveat, the star was able to join the movie with little resistance from his wife despite his thoroughly negotiated and pre-planned sabbatical.
His co-star Cillian Murphy also confirmed Christopher’s tendency to “call out of the blue”, sharing when he got his own bombshell phone call
Damon added: “He said he was making a movie about Oppenheimer, and he said, ‘I’d like you to play Oppenheimer’. I had to sit down. It was kind of overwhelming.”

As the movie toured the globe in a string of premieres, just before the SAG-AFTRA strike prevented its stars from promoting anything more, Matt ensured to include his family in what now may actually be his final film for a bit.
At Oppenheimer’s Paris premiere, Matt appeared with Luciana and three of the four daughters.
While the pair share 14-year-old Gia and 12-year-old Stella while Matt is also a stepfather to Alexia, Luciana’s daughter from a previous relationship.
Matt and Luciana’s eldest daughter, 17-year-old Isabella, was nowhere to be seen at the lavish event although the family of six are rarely seen altogether.
