Former Great British Bake Off host Matt Lucas couldn’t resist a cheeky gag when he spotted Dame Joan Collins’ latest post, in which she invited followers to guess where she was.
The hint of sunshine in the image, plus the actress’ accessories – a wide-brimmed retro hat and a pair of dark sunglasses – led most fans to speculate she could be in Saint Tropez, Monte Carlo, or one of the Greek islands.
Yet Matt suggested a very different setting for her last-minute dose of autumn sun, joking: “Cleethorpes?”
The Lincolnshire seaside town isn’t known to be one of glamorous Joan’s regular choices, and fans immediately overloaded his comment with tears of laughter emojis.
Joan has two main homes – a plush apartment in Belgravia, West London, which she shares with her husband Percy, and a gorgeous holiday home in the south of France.

However, quick-thinking fans swiftly ruled out the latter over the weather, with @mandileu1 exclaiming: “No it’s not St Tropez – too cold & no sun today here!”
@janethp580 continued in the same vein as Matt, joking: “I think you’ve headed to Blackpool early to get a front seat for Strictly!”
@mommadutts chuckled: “Weston Super Mare… Looks like the weather is much more appealing than it is in old Blighty!”
@normabracken then chimed in: “Well it’s not Clapham… lol.”(sic)

Then @mariesamuels12 told the 90-year-old actress: “Wherever you are, you are happy and that’s all that matters!”
It’s little surprise that her holiday hometown of St Tropez has come to mind for some fans, as she previously described it as her top destination.
The sun-soaked location is also the setting of her 2015 novel, St Tropez Lonely Hearts Club.
Talking on her website, she exclaimed: “Of all the places I’ve lived in the world, St Tropez definitely stands out. I love the light, the people, the market, the port and the beaches.
“It has a unique atmosphere, a joie de vivre, particularly in the summer months, that is infectious.”
Joan has had a home there for more than a quarter of a century and she tends to spend three to four months based there every year.
Earlier this year, footage was shared of herself and fellow actress Liz Hurley dancing around during one of their French Riviera lunch dates, demonstrating the fun she usually has there.
However, one of her most recent holidays outside of France was to Cabo in Mexico, where she and Percy, who is more than three decades her junior, delightedly hit the pool and the beach together.
