Meghan Markle ‘focusing on parenting’ as she misses Coronation for Archie’s birthday

Meghan Markle is said to be 'focusing on parenting' ahead of missing the King's Coronation to stay in California for Prince Archie's fourth birthday next month.

On Wednesday it was confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex, 41, will not be at the King's Coronation on 6 May when Prince Harry, 38, makes his way across the pond to attend.

Confirming the Duke of Sussex's attendance, the Palace release a statement, which read: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."

Meghan will stay in California to look after Prince Archie, 3, and one year old Princess Lilibet. Archie's birthday falls on the same day as the coronation, which means that Meghan will be able to celebrate with him by staying in California.

Royal expert and former royal correspondent, Gordon Rayner, wrote in The Telegraph: "The answer, it seems, can be summed up in three words: planning, parenting and regrouping."

Friend of the Sussexes Omid Scobie took to Twitter when the news broke and said he was certain that Archie's birthday played a big part in their decision.

Omid told his Twitter followers: "I understand that Archie's fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple's decision.

"Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey."

After the announcement, King Charles was said to be “very disappointed” that he won't be seeing Meghan or his grandchildren, but is “happy” that Harry will be there.

The Sussexes were previously said to have sent coronation planning into "chaos" after they missed the deadline for RSVPs.

Those who received invitations to the historic event were asked to RSVP by Monday 3 April, however, organisers were reported to have still been waiting for confirmation three days after this deadline. They finally confirmed Harry's attendance on 12 April.

Following the news, Robert Jobson, author of the upcoming book Our King: The Man and the Monarch Revealed, has predicted that Meghan will be unlikely to attend another royal event, stating: "It is good news that Harry has accepted the invite and will be there to support his father.

"It is the most pragmatic move in a difficult situation, and Harry has got it right. He would deeply regret it if he didn't attend the biggest day of his father's life."

He added: "But the fact his wife is not attending means it is now highly unlikely we will ever see her attend an official or Palace event again — apart from maybe the King's funeral."
