Monty Don demonstrates how to plant tulip bulbs
Monty Don has shared the latest snaps of the spectacular garden he tends at his Herefordshire house, which hadn’t been featured on Gardeners’ World for an entire month prior to the unveiling.
The 68-year-old assured fans that in the time since it was last seen, it has “moved into another stage”.
That was abundantly clear from the flower-filled scenes at Longmeadow, which he delightedly gave his 1.2 million Instagram followers a sneak peek of ahead of the highly anticipated show.
Fans were also in awe as they caught last Friday’s episode of the BBC Two show, when he explained that the seemingly miserable and unseasonably cool July Brits have experienced actually produced the right conditions for the garden to thrive.
“It’s been blissfully wet for the last three weeks now and that means everything has greened up,” he reflected.

Meanwhile, in a reference to the intense heatwaves of 2022, he added: “We haven’t got that arid desiccation that we had last summer.
“It’s entered a new season, we have a new palette, a new range of plants and these will last right into autumn.
“This is the time of year that Longmeadow revels in,” he concluded.
“Welcome back Monty, we missed you!” @dawnjean65 exclaimed on Instagram, while @wowserclo exclaimed: “Not impressed with the four week gap!”

@jessicafbull chimed in: “Definitely missed seeing Longmeadow and the pups over the summer. It’s been a long four weeks! Glad to have you back.”
Meanwhile, as fans await the next instalment, Monty’s been keeping their attention piqued with a series of Instagram snaps.
He shared one of an Elephant Hawk moth caterpillar, which looked so otherworldly that @jacquelinetucker8865 quipped: “Genuinely thought it was a soft toy!”
Monty’s beloved dog Ned made an appearance in recent snaps too, with fans delighted to see he was looking healthy.
“August brings a richer, slightly fading, light and texture to [the] garden,” he told his 1.2 million followers yesterday, as the outdoor developments continued.
@jell.io69 was transported emotionally to his location, exclaiming: “I love that early golden light that starts with the hope of the warm smell of harvest and blackberrying to come. A lovely serenity seems to envelope the landscape.”
Monty previously opened up about how gardening had helped him through intense bouts of depression earlier in his career, when he and his wife Sarah had been forced to close their jewellery business.
He told the Guardian mournfully at the time: “The business was voluntarily liquidated, the shop sold for a 10th of what it had cost, and television and journalistic work, caught in the depression, dried to a trickle… and [we had] three little children asking why Daddy was crying.”
He’d previously counted Elton John, Princess Diana and Michael Jackson among his clients, but after losing his business, gardening soon became both a “healing activity” and a lucrative career.
