DIY SOS Big Build’s Nick Knowles has addressed why two core show members were absent from the latest episode. On Monday, the BBC star and his team returned to present a Christmas project with some famous faces from EastEnders.
Nick, 61, explained to viewers that he and the squad were in Harlow to “help a project supporting the local community with their mental health”. He also revealed that soap stars such as Perry Fenwick, Scott Maslen and Gillian Wright were on hand to help.
However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that there were some big omissions from Nick’s original DIY SOS team – namely Julian Perryman and Mark Millar. One fan tweeted him about the charity show, and asked: “Where’s Julian?” In reply, the father-of-four wrote to his 173,400 followers: “Julian is taking time to be with family.”
In reply, one fan wrote: “OK. We miss him as part of your wonderful team. Send our best to him”. Nick got back, stating simply: “I will.”
Elsewhere, another viewer of the renovation show queried why Mark had been missing from the Christmas special. Nick was quick to clarify, revealing: “Mark moved on to other opportunities.”

Carpenter and DIY expert Mark left the BBC1 show back in 2021 and has since gone on to present Channel 5’s Dream Kitchens and Bathrooms and Build Your Dream House in the Country.
He also presents a show on Fix Radio, The Builders station, where he discusses his building ideas.
Earlier this year, Nick announced that he and his girlfriend Katie Dadzie had got engaged.
Taking to Instagram to share the news, the happy couple wrote: “So last minute something special happened in New Orleans.”

At the time, a source told The Sun: “They are so in love and absolutely adore each other. Katie is over the moon that Nick popped the question.”
Back in September, the TV host opened up about Katie, 33, during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine.
Nick said: “She will travel almost anywhere that I’m working.
“When I get home, I spend time with my little boy who is just nine. Wherever I am in the world she’ll come and join in too.”
The DIY SOS EastEnders Special is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
