‘She wouldn’t have gone to court if she was!’ Nicola McLean hits back at claims her pal Rebekah Vardy is ‘broke’ after losing her £3million libel case to Coleen Rooney
Nicola McLean has hit back at claims that her pal Rebekah Vardy is ‘broke’ following the outcome of the Wagatha Christie trial.
Rebekah’s reputation has been left in tatters after losing her £3million libel case to Coleen Rooney on Friday.
And reality star Nicola, 40, continued to show her support for the WAG on Monday morning during an appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
Speaking out: Nicola McLean has hit back at claims that her pal Rebekah Vardy is ‘broke’ following the outcome of the Wagatha Christie trial
Presenter Richard Madeley began by saying: ‘I think possibly the reason there’s a bit of a backlash about this plan for Rebekah to make money off the back of this… it’s almost a moral argument.
‘The thing is, the judge in this case basically said that she’d lied off her face. There’s a sense that there’s something wrong with her being able to make a lot of money off the back of telling porkies?’
Speaking live from Cyprus, Nicola responded: ‘Okay, well Becky has come out hasn’t she and said she disagrees with what the judge has said, so that’s for her… I wasn’t there, I don’t know, but I think that everyone else is monetising over this.
‘For three years this has been absolutely glorified by everyone, people have loved reading about it so I think why shouldn’t both girls, not just Rebekah, but if Coleen wants to also do Netflix docs or whatever it’s been reported, then why not?
‘They’ve got a right to earn money over something that’s been personal to them. Everybody else is earning money from it so why shouldn’t they?’ Nicola continued.

Richard then added: ‘Well, Ms Vardy… it’s said that she might go on some kind of tour to recoup her losses because she’s down about £3million in terms of the costs, so there’s a long way to go. What kind of a tour would that be?
Nicola, who looked taken aback by the idea of Rebekah doing a tour, replied: ‘I mean has she said that? Because I would be very, very shocked… I know Rebekah and I would be deeply shocked if she was doing some sort of audience tour so I don’t know if that’s the truth.
‘Whether or not she plans to do a book or to do a tell-all interview or whether she’s gonna be involved in any documentary, that’s not a conversation that we’ve had but why shouldn’t she? But a tour, I mean Rebekah would not stand in front of a live audience for a tour, no chance!’

Co-host Kate Garraway then asked: ‘Is she broke? Is it really a question of money? Because it would be for any normal person wouldn’t it? Is that her position?’
A beaming Nicola said: ‘Guys, come on you really think that Rebekah Vardy married to Jamie Vardy is broke? She wouldn’t have gone to court if she was broke.’
Kate responded: ‘Okay, so in that case if she doesn’t need the money, there will be people that say after such a brutal bruising of going through all of this, why put yourself above the parapet to be even seen to be cashing in on it? Why not want to retreat and lick wounds, I guess is the question that people might be asking.’

Nicola ended by saying: ‘It’s not a question that I’ve asked her, I’ve not asked her what she plans to do work wise because it’s too soon to have those conversations I’d say.
‘But I don’t think Rebekah’s gonna go and lick her wounds. She’s come out and said that she’s disappointed with what the judge has said. I don’t think she thinks she’s been treated very fairly.
‘If she wants to come out and have her say, then why not? Let her come out and have her say, everyone wants to hear it, don’t we?’ she added.

Vardy, wife of Leicester City footballer Jamie, was told her evidence was ‘evasive and implausible; and was accused of deliberately deleting WhatsApp messages central to the case.
She said she was ‘extremely sad and disappointed at the decision’ last week, adding that it was ‘not the result that I had expected’.
It comes as Vardy’s efforts to restore her reputation may include a documentary, a biography and two retail campaigns.
Sources close to Vardy hope a bidding war will break out among production companies, five of which are said to be interested, to create a documentary on the infamous case.
Bidders are expected to offer between £50,000 and £250,000 for her involvement, The Times reports.
Streaming giants Netflix, Amazon and Disney are already believed to be battling it out to broadcast Rooney’s side of the legal battle made by Lorton Entertainment – the same company responsible for the feature film on Wayne.
A source close to Coleen said she could be in line for ‘several million pounds’ for her participation.
