Pop Idol contestant Darius Campbell Danesh was found dead at the age of 41 in his US apartment in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 – although the cause of death remains unknown. The Scottish-born singer, who was previously married to his wife Natasha Henstridge, has broken her silence on her ex-husband’s death.

The Canadian actress, 48, who was married to Darius from 2011 until 2018, shared a series of photos in a tearful tribute in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Alongside images of the former couple together, she penned: “I have found the paradox that if you love until it hurts there can be no more hurt – Only more love -Mother Theresa.

“There are no words Darius… only Love Love Love. Forever Janam.”

The first photo could see Natasha and Darius posing against a sunset before she went on to include a series of selfies from over the years.

A second photo showed the duo with her two son’s Tristan River, 23, and Asher Sky, 21, to whom Darius was a stepfather.

Natasha, who rose to fame in the nineties with her debut role in the science-fiction thriller Specie, began dating the Scottish singer turned actor in 2004 after he moved to US following his stint on Pop Idol.

They got engaged in 2010 but they called it quits, before rekindling their romance and tying the knot on Valentine’s Day at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

But the couple split just two years later before they finalised their divorce in 2018.

“That relationship was certainly not without its ups and downs. Over the course of 12 years we broke up many times and had a period of six months apart,” he once told the Scottish Herald

“It was often a long distance relationship for half of it. That in itself was an amazing experience, but a painful one. When you love someone you want to be with them,” he added.

When they filed for divorce in 2013, Darius was left heartbroken.

“I felt a great sense of loss with the divorce and I went through a grieving period. You see, you don’t break up with one person, you break up with three. And in some ways, it’s like a death,” he added.

It comes following the news that Darius was just weeks away from a reunion tour with his former Pop Idol co-stars.

Darius’ family wrote in a tweet announcing the news on Tuesday: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

“Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiner’s office.”

Police have said there were “no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances” as of yet while they await toxicology reports as they investigate the death of the late Pop Idol star.

Tributes have since poured in for Darius following the tragic news, with stars such as Simon Cowell and Gareth Gates sharing heartbreaking memories about the much-loved star.

Music mogul Simon, 62, called Darius’ death an “absolute tragedy” in a heartfelt tribute.

Former Pop Idol star Gareth, 41, branded Darius as his “big brother” and added he is “heartbroken”.
