Sam Heughan, 42, has issued a scam alert on his Instagram account following his suspicions about a fraudster operating fake accounts in his name. The star addressed his 3.8 million followers, issuing the warning.
He wrote: “Please be careful on social media.
“So many scammers. I will never reach out or message on Instagram/Twitter or ask for money. if it’s not verified it’s not me.”
Sam is best known for starring on Outlander as Jamie Fraser.
However, fans have been excited recently by the prospect that the TV actor could be a potential runner-up for the next James Bond.
Sadly, recent news might mean that Sam may no longer be eligible for the role as the iconic tuxedo-clad spy.
The star has been in the running for months, even auditioning for the role.
At the end of August, however, it was reported that Sam would be starring in the film adaptation of video game Days Gone.
His potential inclusion in the new film may mean that his chances at being 007 are over.
This is due to the fact that the production and filming of Days Gone may cause scheduling conflicts by the time the next Bond flick is in production.
However, bookies’ odds still stand firm in the belief that Sam has a decent chance at being the next Bond.
Ladbrokes Nicola McGeady said: “Sam Heughan has been chalked up at 20/1 to play James Bond.
“Rumours suggest he is too old for the role. However, we won’t be ruling him out of the race just yet.”
What’s more, Heughan previously auditioned for the role back in 2005. He tried to claim Craig’s role in Casino Royale but failed to wow the producers.
He recently said of the audition on Just The Facts with Alex Zane: “I was called in when they were doing ‘Bond 21’, so before they had Daniel [Craig] again.
“I think they were looking into a younger James Bond, which is what I suspect will happen next.
“It was such a strange experience, but I enjoyed it.”
Heughan added: “I went in with a script and they were like: ‘We might get you to read something from this scene’ but they don’t tell you what it’s from. After that, I was taken upstairs and I met [Bond boss] Barbara Broccoli and [Casino Royale director] Martin Campbell.”
It comes after rumours that the producers are looking for a frontrunner who is below the age of 40 years old, which would also rule Sam out.
The rumour, if true, would also rule out other candidates for the role such as Tom Hardy, 44, and Idris Elba, 49.
