Paul OGradys show leaves fans in tears as it rolls silent credits after stars death

Paul O’Grady fans have been left in tears after the first episode of his hit show For the Love of Dogs aired on Thursday night, following his tragic death.

After the comedian died ‘unexpectedly but peacefully’ at the end of March aged 67, the new series – and what will now be the last – began airing last night.

Series 11 of the much-anticipated show, that’s based around day-to-day life at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, has begun airing as planned, prior to O’Grady’s tragic death last month. But many fans were feeling emotional watching the legendary comedian with his beloved dogs.

At the end of the first episode, the credits featured a picture of O’Grade and one of his beloved pooches and rolled in silence as a tribute to the much-loved comedian, leaving heartbroken fans in tears.

Following the moving tribute to the late comedian, fans flocked to social media to share their thoughts.

"Beautiful tribute to Paul O’Grady For the Love of Dogs, thank you so much," one viewer shared, while another added: "So sad watching #POGDOGS knowing @Battersea_ and the UK have lost a top class legend in Paul O’Grady."

Another added: "New series of For The Love Of Dogs a tough watch knowing presenter Paul O’Grady had left us. Very emotional", while another shared: "Still tears in my eyes watching Paul O’Grady but so enjoy the programme," shared one fan as a second said it was "heartbreaking knowing he’s gone."

The TV star, also known for his drag queen persona Lily Savage, had personally re-homed several dogs from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, falling in love with many during filming for the show, where he took Eddie, a Chihuahua Jack-Russell-cross puppy home.

In addition to hosting ITV’s multi-award-winning For The Love Of Dogs, O’Grady also hosted The Paul O’Grady Show, Blind Date and Blankety Blank.

It was O’Grady’s partner, Andre Portasio who announced his death last month, saying: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.”

“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.”
