Phillip Schofield has escaped to Cornwall to spend time with his mother, after sensationally announcing he was leaving This Morning "with immediate effect".
The 61 year old TV presenter has been under the glare of the spotlight for the past couple of weeks, after reports of a "feud" with former co-presenter, Holly Willoughby, 42.
And, after putting on a brave face and presenting alongside Holly this week, Philip announced that he would be leaving on Saturday with "immediate effect" to "protect the show that I love".
His statement, posted to his Instagram stories, read: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.
"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.
"I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.
"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future."
He continued: "I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."
And amid the exit news, Phillip has made a speedy dash to Cornwall to visit his mother, Pat, 85.
They have been spotted out and about enjoying a coastal walk, which will no doubt have been something of a relief to Phillip as he seeks solace.
In pictures obtained by The Sun, Phillip was seen dressed casually in a white hoody, jeans and sneakers, as the strain of the past few weeks was clear to see on his face.
He did manage to crack a smile, however, as he went for a stroll with his mother amongst the beautiful scenery that Cornwall has to offer.
After Phillip announced his departure from This Morning, his former co-host Holly Willoughby posted a statement to Instagram.
It read: "It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him."
