Porno For Pyros recently released a new ocean-conscious single “Agua,” marking the band’s first new music in twenty-six years.
Originally inspired by the band members’ close encounters with dolphins on their globe-trotting surfing trips of the ’90s, “Agua” reflects their contemporary environmental concerns.
The single is part of a forthcoming album that is set to drop in 2024 ahead of the band’s farewell tour.
Porno For Pyros are promoting the song with the Surfrider Foundation in an effort to protect the oceans and the coasts.
“The people who live here on the West Coast have a beautiful love and passion for the Pacific Ocean,” said founding member Perry Farrell. “The ocean doesn’t look right, doesn’t feel right, doesn’t surf right. You go and swim in it, and you get the creeps. The sunsets are different. We are really, really screwing it up. We have to do something about it. I wanted to bring attention to it through the best megaphone that I know, which is music.”
Farrell also shared his excitement for the release of the band’s first new song in 26 years, stating, “Now we’re here, and that same heart, that same desire to make music together, has returned. Getting together with these guys has been some of the most fun, the happiest times in my life.”
