Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘won’t have police protection’ in UK amid row

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be using their own bodyguards on their trip to the UK after being denied police protection.

The pair are heading to Manchester on Monday, and reportedly landed on UK soil on Saturday morning after flying commercial. It's the first time that the pair have visited the UK since the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations back in June.

Tensions remain between the Sussexes and the Home office after being engaged in a legal battle to provide police protection to the couple – with the royals being denied any protection despite offering to pay for it.

They are now having to rely on their own security staff and event organisers to keep them safe at a One Young World event they are attending in Manchester tomorrow, The Sun reports.

One Young World is an organisation which promotes young leaders and aims to bring together communities across the world – supporting young campaigners and representatives to produce impactful projects.

Meghan has been supporting the organisation for several years, with the project also being supported by celebrities such as Emma Watson.

The Duchess of Sussex is set to deliver the keynote speech at the opening of the four-day conference on Monday.

The MailOnline had confirmation from Greater Manchester Police that the couple's security is being "privately secured" after the pair were denied police security by the Home Office.

Prince Harry has been embroiled in a lengthy legal battle with the Home Office after they previously denied police protection when the couple returned to the country following their well-documented move to California – stepping back from royal duties.

The Duke of Sussex has been taking legal action against the government department after they told him he would not be given the "same degree" of protective security when he visits the country from the US.

His representatives previously spoke about how the Prince wanted to bring his family back to the UK more often to visit his country, but they are "unable to return to his home" because it is too dangerous.

The whole family did make the trip for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations back in June, but the Sussexes mostly kept out of the limelight – only attending the Thanksgiving service at St Paul's Cathedral during that time.

The Prince was removed from the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures list after stepping back from his royal duties. Those on the list receive automatic security funded by the taxpayer.

But in July, Harry won the right to bring a High Court challenge against the Home Office over his security arrangements in the UK, with the judge saying Harry had an "arguable" case on four of the five grounds he brought his claim.
