Prince Harry puts on brave face as comforts airport worker during solo London return

A grieving Prince Harry was seen putting on a brave face as he began the journey back to London from Balmoral following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Duke of Sussex, 37, left the Queen's Scottish estate just over 12 hours after arriving there to mourn the loss of his late grandmother alongside father King Charles III and other Royal Family members.

Harry was spotted wrapping an arm around an Aberdeen Airport worker as they talked before boarding a plane on Friday morning.

He was the last royal to arrive Balmoral on Thursday night, heartbreakingly arriving shortly after the monarch's death was publicly announced.

Harry was then then the first to leave on Friday as his brother William and other close members remained at the Aberdeenshire castle.

Dressed in a black suit with white shirt and carrying a black backpack, Harry was snapped walking and talking with an airport worker in a yellow high-visibility jacket and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder as she offered her condolences.

He boarded a flight to Heathrow Airport that was due to take off around 10am.

Harry was earlier pictured being driven out of the Royal Family's Scottish home in a black Range Rover at 8.26am, having only arrived at Balmoral at 7.52pm the night before.

His flight to Scotland had landed at 7pm – hours after other travelling members had touched down together on an RAF plane – and he was still in the air when the Queen's death was announced to the nation at 6.30pm.

Harry looked understandably devastated as he arrived at the estate in the back of a car, when he could be seen putting his hand to his head.

Harry is now expected to head back to Windsor to be with wife Meghan Markle, 40, who stayed behind after an unexplained change of plan.

The couple's spokesperson had initially said they would both travel to Scotland on Thursday.

The Duke and Duchess shared a tribute in memory of the Queen, honouring Her Majesty on their website Archewell.

A message on the website, which was blacked out, read: "In Loving Memory Of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022."

It hasn't been confirmed whether Meghan and Harry will stay in the UK until the Queen's state funeral, which is expected to be in around 10 days' time.

They have been away from their children Archie, three, and one year old Lilibet in the US for all of this week after making what was meant to be a brief trip to the UK and Europe to attend charity events.

The couple had been scheduled to go to the WellChild Awards ceremony in London on Thursday evening but understandably skipped the event.
