Prince William paid a touching tribute to music icon Tina Turner with revelations about the effect her music had throughout his childhood.
Music legend Tina died at the age of 83 on Wednesday, May 24, at her stunning home in Switzerland. It has since been confirmed that she died from natural causes.
Tributes have poured in for the late star, who had many health battles throughout her life, with the Prince of Wales, 40, previously confirming he was a fan of the singer.
He said he regularly listened to her extensive discography, and even has an emotional link to some of the hit-maker's tracks, as they help him remember his mother, Princess Diana, who tragically died at just 36-years-old in 1997 when the prince was 15.
Prince William's comments came during a 2021 interview for the Apple audio experience, Time To Walk, where he confessed a particular liking for Tina's 1989 hit, The Best, reports The Mirror.
Elaborating, he explained his beloved mother had played the song while driving him and his younger brother, Prince Harry, back to boarding school to help calm their "anxiety". He dubbed it a "real family moment".
He said: "When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school.
"And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner's The Best, because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment.
Prince William explained his mother would sing along at "the top of her voice", while the policeman joining them en route would "occasionally" sing along, too.
The future King said the family would listen and sing along to the music the entire journey back to school, until the young princes were dropped off.
William added: "When I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother."
The singer passed away earlier this week, with her spokesman confirming she died 'peacefully' at home.
A statement issued by her publicist at the time read: "Tina Turner, the 'Queen of Rock'n Roll' has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model."
A representative for Tina confirmed the cause of her death to Mail Online.
