Prince William is reported to be worried over the whereabouts of diamonds that once belonged to Princess Diana.
The jewellery, that was given to Meghan Markle, included two diamonds from his late mother's precious collection. Meghan, 42, was given the diamonds as they formed part of her engagement ring from Prince Harry which was given to her in 2017.
The ring was made up of three gemstones, two from Diana's collection which were set beside a stone from Botswana on a plain gold band. It was co-designed by Queen Elizabeth’s known jeweller, Cleave & Company and Harry himself.
It's believed that less than two years later the engagement ring underwent a bit of a redesign, with it reportedly "updated" to feature a thinner band instead.
The new version was said to have been debuted, alongside another ring, by Meghan at the Trooping the Colour back in 2019.
Meghan has been spotted without the ring on various occasions this year, including at a gala in May and then when enjoying a lunch date with friends in August.
More recently, she didn't wear the ring whilst at the Invictus Games alongside her husband just last month in September. At first, the lack of ring sparked rumours that the couple marriage may have broke down. However It was later reported that the ring was "being fixed" as one of the diamond sets became loose.
A source told New Idea magazine that her brother-in-law Prince William, 41, is supposedly concerned about the whereabouts of his late mother's gemstones.
Discussing the "vanished" engagement ring ring the source said that it doesn't make sense that Meghan – who got married to Prince Harry in 2018 – would not be "proudly" wearing it, especially to public events.
The source suggested it could have sparked some concern among the other royals, particularly given the rumours the couple are estranged from his brother Prince William.
The source said: "And it's safe to say it has set off alarm bells at the Palace. [Prince William's] putting the word out through mutual friends that he wants to know what's going on. Not knowing where they are is disturbing for William."
It was then suggested that he is "always protective" of his late mother's legacy, with her jewellery said to be considered an "important" part of that.
The source said that the memories he has of her wearing each piece "will never go away".
