Queen Consort Camilla has given up one of her favourite hobbies due to her age.
Camilla, 75, who recently accompanied King Charles on a state visit to Germany, has revealed she's given up horse riding.
While visiting a school in Hamburg, the Queen Consort told students she no longer rides due to her age. She shared the pastime with the late Queen, who was known for her adoration of horses.
Camilla told the children: "I used to have horses I rode but sadly I don't ride any longer."
The Mail on Sunday reports that despite giving up the hobby, Camilla still keeps in touch with her stables.
She told the schoolchildren: "I think I'm too old but I have race horses. Last night I watched on my screen one of the foals being born, which was very exciting."
According to a royal insider, her love for horses is thought to be why she has taken over the day-to-day running of the Queen's stables.
This includes overseeing the way the stables are run, as well as maintaining relationships with the horses' trainers.
John Warren, the late Queen's Royal bloodstock and racing advisor, said Camilla is the one with a passion for horses, rather than the King.
"He has always followed it, but it has been his mother's interest so it has been at arm's length," he said. "He owns a few horses himself, in particular with the [then] Duchess of Cornwall. She is absolutely besotted with racing."
Camilla accompanied the King on the first state visit of his reign, which began with a ceremonial greeting at Berlin's iconic Brandenburg Gate. He later became the first British monarch to address the Bundestag, speaking in both German and English.
He said he could "hardly begin to express the pride" he felt in the two nations' relationship, and spoke fondly of his "cherished" family ties to Germany. He also thanked the country for its kindness following the death of his mother.
He said: "Today, it gives me particular pride to be with you … and to renew the special bond between our two countries."
Charles and Camilla were due to visit France last month on their first state visit, but the trip was shelved after a night of violent demonstrations across the country amid the country's ongoing protests over retirement reforms.
The decision to cancel the trip was made amid reports the King may have been targeted during further demonstrations planned by protestors to coincide with the visit.
