The late Queen “gave Meghan Markle a telling off” for being rude to a staff member ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, a new book has claimed.
Meghan, 41, is said to have been ranting to a caterer about her vegan wedding menu when her Majesty, who was laid to rest on Monday, entered the room to be met with the “tense exchange”.
The Mail on Sunday references a source who told journalist Katie Nicholl that Meghan's direct approach had even come to the notice of the Queen.
The publication reports that on one occasion in the run-up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding, Meghan went to Windsor Castle for a menu-tasting which resulted in a “tense” exchange with a member of the catering team.
Katie quotes the source in her book The New Royals: “Meghan was at the castle to taste some of the dishes and told one of the caterers she could taste egg.”
The source continued: “She got quite upset, saying that the dish was meant to be vegan and macrobiotic, when suddenly the Queen walked in and said: 'Meghan, in this family we don't speak to people like that.'”
OK! has contacted Buckingham Palace and representatives for Meghan Markle for comment.
The news follows claims that Prince Harry was "summoned by the Queen" after having an alleged row with the Queen's dresser Angela Kelly ahead of his wedding to Meghan.
The claims were made inValentine Low's new bookwhere he writes that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding was "particularly stressful" with heated discussions over scheduling, announcements and the tiara ahead of their big day.
Writer Valentine claims that mum-of-two Meghan had been told that the Queen would lend her tiara for her wedding, with an appointment to meet the late monarch's dresser Angela Kelly so she could look at tiaras for the big day.
After Meghan chose Queen Mary's diamond bandeau tiara for her wedding, she wanted to try it on when her hairdresser Serge Normant was available.
But after Serge wasn't around on that day,Meghan could not get access to try on the tiara. And following the incident, Valentine Low writes that Harry, 38, was feeling "furious" and allegedly thought the Queen's dresser was being "obstructive".
However, it was also claimed that Meghan demanded access to the tiara without making an appointment with Angela Kelly and she was reportedly told she "needed to follow protocol" as these jewels were "kept under very tight lock and key".
