Boyfriend Pete Ashdown reveals that before her tragic passing, the founder of parenting website Dooce experienced a relapse after being sober for over 18 months.
AceShowbiz –Heather Armstrong has passed away at the age of 47. The famous blogger, who started the mommy blogging craze in the early 2000s, was found dead on Tuesday night, May 9 at the home she shared with boyfriend Pete Ashdown in Salt Lake City.
Sharing the tragic news was Pete, who told The Associated Press that Heather, who struggled with alcohol and depression, took her own life. He further revealed that she suffered a relapse after being sober for more than 18 months. He did not disclose more information.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Salt Lake City PD released a statement regarding Heather’s passing. The spokesperson noted that police rushed to her home on May 9 night only to discover her deceased. Preliminary investigation ruled that she committed suicide. Any more details, however, were not shared.
Heather’s death was confirmed through a post on her Instagram account. Alongside a smiling photo of the blogger, a heart-wrenching tribute was shared, “Heather Brooke Hamilton aka Heather B. Armstrong aka dooce aka love of my life. July 19, 1975 – May 9, 2023. ‘It takes an ocean not to break.’ Hold your loved ones close and love everyone else.”
Heather, who used the pseudonym Dooce since 2001, candidly shared her parenthood journey and issues with depression and alcoholism with her readers through dooce.com. She recently discussed mental health difficulties, disclosing that she participated in a research trial to see if depression might be cured by putting patients into medically induced comas.
The recipient of “The Queen of the Mommy Bloggers” title from the New York Times also wrote “It Sucked and Then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita” and “Things I Learned About My Dad In Therapy”. She released the books in 2009. That same year, she made an appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and was named one of Forbes’ most powerful women in media.
Heather has 19-year-old Leta Elise Armstrong and 14-year-old Marlo Iris Armstrong together with ex-husband, Jon Armstrong. The former couple announced their divorce in 2012.
