Queen said ‘thank goodness Meghan’s not coming’ to Philip’s funeral, book claims

The Queen reportedly said "thank goodness Meghan's not coming” to Prince Philip’s funeral last year, a new book has claimed.

Unnamed sources make the claims in a new book by biographer Tom Bower entitled Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors.

The controversial book is being serialised in the Times and Sunday Times, and an extract has been published in Saturday’s paper that claims the Queen, 96, was relieved that the Duchess of Sussex, who was then seven months pregnant with her daughter Lilibet, would not be attending her husband Philip’s funeral last April.

The book says: “‘Thank goodness Meghan is not coming,’ the monarch said in a clear voice to her trusted aides.”

However, sources close to the Queen have questioned whether the monarch would have anything other than Philip on her mind on the day of the funeral.

In the book, Mr Bower also claims that Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan, 40, made a “demand to appear with the Queen on Buckingham Palace’s balcony” during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last month.

The book alleges that Prince Charles opposed this arrangement.

Mr Bower writes: “Festering was their (Harry’s and Meghan’s) fury that the palace had refused all of their demands for a prominent role at the Jubilee.”

He adds: “In Meghan’s view those optics were unsatisfactory, partly because her value to Netflix was to stand near the Queen.”

Mr Bower’s previous unauthorised biographies have featured Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn, Charles, Tony Blair and Richard Branson, among others.

The book’s claims come just weeks after a royal insider said the Queen is “fed up with Harry and Meghan drama”.

A royal insider claimed earlier this month that The Queen is “fed up with Harry and Meghan drama” and wants the bullying claims surrounding Meghan to be handled privately so a “line” can be drawn.

The Daily Mailreported that a palace insider told Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl that Her Majesty wanted the inquiry to be handled privately in a bid to avoid any further problems with the Royal Family's public image.

The royal insider said: “The queen feels there has been enough drama around the Sussexes, and she wants a line to be drawn.”
