It’s been nearly two years since he first made us burn for him — but our biggest Netflix crush is here to stay! Regé-Jean Page, star of season one of Netflix’s hit Bridgerton, had viewers swooning with his portrayal of the sexy, emotionally complicated Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. While his onscreen romance has made headlines, “The Gray Man”‘s offscreen personal life has stayed mostly out of the spotlight.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in December 2020, Page admitted to being quite a romantic at heart. “I’m a huge fan of romance as a concept. Romance is a wonderful thing and we need more of it in the world,” he told the magazine. “Most things at their core are love stories anyway, whether they realize it or not. It’s hilarious, the more seriously a show tries to take itself and detach itself from that, the more that the love story generally tends to come forward.”
He also embraces the inherent romance in one of our favorite classic period-drama tropes: held-gaze ballroom scenes between two characters — a type of scene he and former costar Phoebe Dynevor, as Simon and Daphne, excelled at. “You have this space to flirt and communicate in private. Even though the eyes of the world are on you, it’s that little bubble of honesty between those two characters,” he told Oprah Magazine. With such an unabashed love for romantic tropes, it’s no wonder that Page was able to fully inhabit the character of the broody, passionate, and complex Simon!
In real life, though, Page is much less open about his personal feelings and relationships. But that doesn’t mean he’s single. In February 2021, the actor sparked romance rumors when he was spotted embracing writer and part-time athlete Emily Brown before catching a flight. At the time, a source confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the pair was dating. Since then, they’ve made a few public appearances together, including at the GQ Men of the Year Awards and the London Film Festival last year. This year, the duo stepped out hand in hand for a pre-BAFTA dinner party in March. And on July 8, they attended Wimbledon together in the UK for day 12 of tournament play.
At this point, he has not spoken publicly about his relationship with Brown or past romances, but whatever his status, we love Page’s refreshing and heartfelt views on love.
