Rhod Gilbert has admitted he feels “terrible” for his wife-of-10 years, Sian Harries.
Prior to the 55-year-old’s recent cancer diagnosis, the pair worked together to make a documentary on their fertility struggles.
The 2021 BBC special was called Rhod Gilbert: Stand Up to Infertility and was created to encourage men to talk about and bring awareness to male fertility issues.
In a new interview, Rhod has opened up about how Sian, 42, has been caring for him during his recent health struggles, whilst also being “focused” on the couple becoming parents.
The comedian told Radio Times: “She didn’t want to be in the doc, it was too much to look after me and to also be on camera. The caring for me was enough, which I appreciate.”

Touching on the desire to become a parent, Rhod said: “It’s been a long process for us, and we are still very open to all the many and varied means of being parents. It’s completely focused the mind.”
The comedian then reportedly got emotional and stated: “I’m not sorry I’ve had cancer. It’s an odd thing to say, and I feel terrible for my wife.
“But I feel I can help other people, being there for friends, holding other people’s hands.
“It’s a cliché, but life now tastes a whole lot sweeter than it did. I don’t feel like life has given me lemons, I feel like it’s given me a lovely trifle.”

Last July, Rhod announced that he was being treated for metastatic cancer of the head and neck at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.
Earlier this year, the stand-up comedian was forced to postpone a series of live shows as he underwent surgery for gallstones and gallbladder infections.
Writing an update to his Facebook page, the TV star said: “I thank each one of you for your continuing patience, rest assured, the show WILL go on.
“I’m feeling good and feel like I’m recovering day by day. Some days I’m well enough to do a bit of writing and I’ve got a feeling [that] when I’ve got through all this there’ll be a show in it,” he continued.
Rhod is expected to return to the live comedy circuit early next year with his ‘Rhod Gilbert & the Giant Grapefruit’ show.
The comedy tour will kick off with two sold-out nights at Hereford’s Courtyard before heading out on the road to Yeovil’s Westlands, Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn and Crewe’s Lyceum.
After the first leg of the tour concludes on February 1 at The Hafren in Newtown, Rhod will head back on the road in May, June and July before round three kicks off at the end of September.
Announcing the tour via Instagram, the Welsh star wrote: “After the year I’ve had it’s wonderful to be alive and going back on the road.
“I can’t wait to get back on stage and I’m ready to get way too personal about life’s recent ups and downs. When life gives you lemons, you have to squeeze them ’til the comedy juice flows, so prepare for some dark but funny s***.”
