Attorney for the ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ crooner, Jose Andreu-Fuentes, describes the sexual assault claims as ‘wildly offensive and completely untethered from reality.’
AceShowbiz –Ricky Martin is facing new sexual assault allegations after the dismissal of a similar case. However, the singer’s attorney Jose Andreu-Fuentes has shut down the claims, saying they are “completely untethered from reality.”
“These claims are wildly offensive and completely untethered from reality,” Jose told PEOPLE in a statement. “When this man previously made similar allegations, his legal case had to be withdrawn – not least because he himself admitted under oath that Ricky Martin had never assaulted him in any way.”
“Now, after being sued for trying to extort Mr. Martin, he is attempting to spread his lies again, the attorney added. “It is beyond time that the media stops giving this deeply troubled individual the oxygen of publicity and allows him to get the help he so clearly needs.”
The unnamed plaintiff filed the complaint against Ricky on Friday, September 9 at a police department in his hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico. According to the Associated Press, Ricky’s nephew Dennis Yadiel Sanchez Martin was the one who submitted the legal docs.
Although details of the allegations and the accuser’s identity are not public information, the AP reported that Ricky’s nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sánchez Martin – whose mother is Ricky’s sister – filed the new complaint, according to a source not authorized to speak on the case.
Ricky himself is reportedly suing Dennis for $20 million over the latter’s sexual abuse allegations. In documents obtained by the New York Post, the musician claimed his nephew was attempting to “assassinate” the his reputation.
According to TMZ, which was the first to report the lawsuit, the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” crooner filed the suit in San Juan, Puerto Rico a month after Dennis withdrew his restraining order against the pop star. The former claimed his nephew began sending him messages through Instagram, threatening to “assassinate his reputation and integrity” if he didn’t give him cash.
Ricky additionally stated in his suit that Dennis, whom he described as a “maladjusted individual,” boasted about being his nephew and would send him messages up to 10 times a day for a four-month period. The singer alleged that the 21-year-old posted his mobile number on the web and made an Instagram account for one of his children, leaving the father-of-four shaken.
Ricky also believes he has missed out on lucrative business opportunities, the suit stated, and is looking for $20 million (£17.4 million) in damages. The 50-year-old, who has kids Valentino and Matteo, both 14, as well as Lucia and Renn, both three, with husband Jwan Yosef, alleged he and his family feel “unsafe” in Puerto Rico due to Dennis’ alleged behavior.
