Paul O’Grady died “unexpectedly but peacefully” at his home at the age of 67 last month.

The TV star passed away due to sudden cardiac arrhythmia following many years of heart problems.

Hundreds of mourners lined the streets to pay their respects to the beloved comedian and presenter.

Sheridan Smith took to Twitter today and penned a heartfelt message to the Lily Savage star as she shared her sadness.

In view of her 700,000 followers, the singer penned: “Sad I can’t be there today in Kent with my dogs to say goodbye to Paul and give him a send off, but know it will be incredible. He was so loved.

“The memories and belly laughs @TonyMaudsley1 @Fitzyfella and myself have with Paul will last forever! Rest in animal paradise Lily x.”

Social media users flocked to comment on the message as they offered their condolences.

Jane wrote: “A fitting tribute to a lovely man.”

Paul commented: “Paul was a true animal lover and a great ambassador for them. Rest in peace you brilliant human being.”

Sheridan is currently on stage where she has taken on the role of Shirley Valentine and the talented star was pictured at London’s Duke of York theatre last week.

Meanwhile, actress Linda Henry, who plays Shirley Carter in EastEnders, LGBTQ rights campaigner Peter Tatchell and TV presenter Gaby Roslin were among those in attendance at Paul’s funeral.

Comedian Julian Clary, actress Dame Sheila Hancock, the late Dame Barbara Windsor’s widower Scott Mitchell and EastEnders actor Scott Maslen were also seen at the church.

Rolling Stones guitarist, Ronnie Wood, and comedian Alan Carr were among those also in attendance.

The Salvation Army Band played songs including Tomorrow from the musical Annie where Paul was starring in a touring production of the show at the time of his death.

Dogs from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home formed a guard of honour for the service, recognising his extensive work as an ambassador for the charity.

At the church, pallbearers carried the wooden coffin adorned with a wreath of lilies, while O’Grady’s daughter Sharyn Mousley entered with a young man holding the wig of Lily Savage – her father’s drag alter ego.
