Shaking Jessica Chastain dramatically trips at SAG Awards 2023

Jessica Chastain got caught in her billowing gown

Jessica Chastain wore a voluminous pink gown, covered in ruffles down the front, to the star-studded ceremony. She, however, appeared to get caught on her skirt as she tripped walking up the stairs to the stage.

Jessica Chastain, 45, has been compared to Jennifer Lawrence after the Hollywood actress got briefly caught in her dress on her way to accept a SAG Award last night.

The Good Nurse actress was making her way to the stage in the live moment to accept the SAG Award for Best Female Actor in a TV movie or mini-series.

She received some much-needed assistance from Irish actor Paul Mescal who was sat in the front row.

Many viewers rushed to Twitter to comment on the SAG Awards mishap.

Pikemarguiles wrote: “Jessica Chastain said i know it’s been 10 years since Jennifer Lawrence fell at an award show let me fix this.”

Jessica Chastain has since spoken out on the “shaking” moment

Jessica Chastain spoke to Access Hollywood on the red carpet after receiving her gong for Best Actress in a TV series. She told the US publication: “I am walking up there and I realise I am in trouble because my whole body is shaking. I’m thinking, ‘OK, I’m gonna need help getting up the stairs’ and then I started to trip. Then when I got to the podium I saw the countdown. I had to speak and I knew I had to speak fast so I have a feeling I might have forgotten some people.”

Many viewers took to Twitter to comment on the mishap moment

Jessica Chastain’s fall was not missed by SAG Award viewers, with the clip resurfacing on Twitter. Chcstains wrote: “Jessica Chastain did Jennifer Lawrence fall!” While TheJillKushner added: “Thrilled with the small number of steps at the #SAGAwards. I’ve spent 70 per cent of my life worrying about actresses falling up the stairs. UPDATE: 10 seconds after I tweeted this Jessica Chastain fell up the stairs. I blame myself.”

Jessica Chastain’s fall was compared to Jennifer’s 2013 Oscars moment

Jennifer Lawrence famously fell on her walk up to the stage in 2013 as she walked to the stage to accept the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in the film Silver Linings Playbook. Jessica Chastain seemed to recreate the moment as she fell at the SAG Awards last night as she collected the award for her role as Tammy Wynette in Showtime’s George & Tammy.

Jessica Chastain left a touching tribute to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman

Jessica Chastain said in her acceptance speech: “Philip Seymour Hoffman came to speak to my class and I told all his frustrating stories about auditions and he encouraged us to keep going even when we thought no one was watching us. And he said at the end of the talk, ‘I look forward to working with each of you’. It really shocked me because it was like he brought it into being. A few years later it came true and I had the opportunity to do a play with him. I’m telling this story right now because it reminds me of how powerful our mind is and what our thoughts can do, so I want to tell everyone who might be struggling at home, to all the actors I get to meet, ‘Keep going, you’re one job away. I look forward to working with you, I’ll see you on set and I love you.”

Jessica Chastain was also sure to pay tribute to her fellow nominees

Jessica Chastain also used her speech to pay tribute to her fellow nominees, Emily Blunt (The English), Julia Garner (Inventing Anna), Niecy Nash Betts (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout). She said: “Thank you so much to the Screen Actors Guild Awards, I just have to recognise my fellow nominees -Amanda, Emily, Julia, Niecy – I have seen all of your performances and I am in awe of you and your talent, they’re amazing…I share this with Michael Shannon, who I believe is one of our greatest working actors.”
