The former season 2 star of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ finally speaks up after being accused of sexual assault, sexual harassment, gender violence, false imprisonment and negligence by Daniel McGarrigle.
AceShowbiz –Shangela has finally broken her silence on rape accusations against her. The former season 2 star of “RuPaul’s Drag Race“, who is being sued by ex-assistant of “We’re Here” Daniel McGarrigle, declared that she’s “hurt” by the allegations.
“I can’t begin to explain how hurt and disgusted I am by these totally untrue allegations. They are personally offensive and perpetuate damaging stereotypes that are harmful not only to me but also to my entire community,” the 42-year-old said in a statement to PEOPLE. “An external investigation into this embittered individual’s claims previously concluded that they were completely without merit.”
“This newest filing is nothing but an attempt to shake down both me and a well-regarded television company. No one should be fooled: it has no basis in fact or in law, and it will not succeed,” she added. “As a hardworking and outspoken drag entertainer for more than a decade, I know that I am far from alone in battling ignorance, bigotry and prejudice, all of which played a role in the filing of this complaint.”
Shangela, whose real name is Darius Jeremy “DJ” Pierce, went on to note, “That is why I will fight this entirely meritless lawsuit and not allow it to destroy me and those I love, or harm the causes we all stand for.”
In the lawsuit, Daniel accused Shangela of sexual assault, sexual harassment, gender violence, false imprisonment and negligence. He also accused the “Dancing with the Stars” alum of violating the Ralph Act, which forbids hate violence as well as intimidation by threats of violence under California law.
Daniel also detailed one of the alleged incidents in a since-deleted Instagram post. “I was raped by D.J. [Shangela’s real name, Darius Jeremy Pierce], after the episode wrap party, during a HBO series I was filming,” he said at that time. “The night of the wrap party, I was invited by Shangela to ride to the bar with her, where we met other members of the cast and crew.”
Once they arrived, Daniel claimed that Shangela “bought” him a drink but he told her he “didn’t drink.” But Shangela insisted that she “already bought it, so to just have one.” So Daniel did have it.
“Not long after, she buys shots for a large group of crew members, and she brings me one too. She again tells me to take the drink. Not wanting to disappoint one of the stars/producers of the show, I again take the drink,” Daniel recalled. “This happened multiple times throughout the hour or two I was there… Next thing I knew, Shangela tells me that I need to come back to her room to help her pack for her flight the next day.”
Daneil claimed he got wasted and then laid in Shangela’s bed after the latter told him so. He further recounted, “I remember crashing face first in her king bed, face buried in the cold pillow. Then I guess I passed out… Then things turned messy as Daniel “woke up to DJ on top of [him], rubbing his penis on [his] butthole.”
