In a moving Instagram post yesterday, former Blue Peter and Sky Sports presenter Simon, 49, thanked the hospital, the NHS and God for the safe delivery.
He said the medical team “held our hands physically and in spirit the whole way through a very fear-filled and stressful day”.
Simon added the family had “a long road ahead”, but mum and daughter were in the best hands.
The presenter lost his first wife Gemma, with whom he has a son, Ethan, 12, to acute myeloid leukaemia in 2017. He married Derrina, 31, last year.
He said Derrina, who had developed the pregnancy blood pressure condition pre-eclampsia, and their newborn would remain in hospital for the next few weeks.
He called the hospital’s neonatal team “simply incredible” and said: “Not everything in life goes quite according to plan.”
“One moment we think we’ve got eight weeks until our little one arrives; the next, after Derrina fell rapidly ill, we’re suddenly welcoming into the world a very tiny, but hugely precious baby girl.”
“I cannot express how proud and blessed I feel right now – I have a beautiful, brave wife in Derrina, a precious son and now a tiny, wonderful daughter and sister for our boy Ethan.”
“Thank you Stoke Mandeville and thank you NHS for being there for us, and thank you God for blessing us as a family so much.”
Simon did not reveal if he and Derrina had chosen a name for their daughter.
The drama came a month after Simon, sharing a snap of Derrina’s ultrasound scan, announced on Instagram that they were expecting their first child.
