Strictly champ Rose Ayling-Ellis lands huge ITV drama role after quitting EastEnders

Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis has landed a huge new role in a TV crime drama series.

Rose, who was the first deaf contestant to compete on the celebrity dance show in 2021, is set to star in ITV's Code Of Silence.

The 28 year old actress – also known for her role as Frankie in EastEnders – will play a character recruited by police for her lip-reading skills, which will be used to uncover the conversations of criminals.

The six-part drama is written by Catherine Moulton, who's also worked on the recent TV series Baptiste and Then You Run.

Rose said of her new role: “When I first read Catherine Moulton’s script it was obvious that her first-hand experiences and understanding has enabled her to write a truly authentic character and I knew I had to be a part of this project.

“I am so delighted. ITV are as excited as we are to bring this to life and I can’t wait to get to started.”

Rose will play a deaf catering worker, called Alison Woods, who to make ends meet works in both a police canteen and a local bar and cares for her deaf mother.

But Alison becomes key to a police investigation when she translates a criminal gang’s conversations as she finds herself drawn to one of the main suspects.

Earlier this month, Rose joined TV talk show Loose Women for a special one-off episode focusing on celebrating and raising awareness of the deaf community, with Rose as the main guest.

Fellow presenter Kay Adams had previously revealed she's suffered from gradual hearing loss and now wears a hearing aid.

And last year, Rose revealed exclusively to OK! how she missed performing on Strictly, alongside her dance partner pro, Giovanni Pernice.

"I really miss it. The experience was magical," she said. "I feel like I learnt so much and it’s something I’ll carry for life.

I learnt about the way I think and I believe in myself more. It’s not that I didn’t think I could do it, I always knew I could, but there was a more personal side to it and I learnt a lot about myself."

During the series, Rose not only raised the profile of the deaf community, but she and Giovanni even won a BAFTA for their Couple’s Choice number – a dance to Clean Bandit’s Symphony with a silent section.

Strictly has announced the professional dancers, judges and presenters for the upcoming 2023 series – with a slew of fan favourites returning.

The show is due to return this autumn for its impressive and highly-anticipated 21st series.

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will be back as presenters to oversee proceedings, while returning to the judging panel are Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas, who will be resuming her duties as head judge.
